FLOOD FACTS

A flash flood is a sudden flood event caused by a hydrologic response of the drainage basin. Flash floods are normally strongly localized and associated with extreme showers or thunderstorm activity, when high rates of precipitation occur in a short period of time.

On July 4, 2001 a flash flood swept through the Bryn Gwyn holiday park near Bala, North Wales leaving up to 45,000 homes without power and moving caravans several hundred yards away

Flood warnings are issued by the relevant government agencies for your area. The warnings for flood should appear on here live but we recommend that any danger of flood is checked by your flood authority eg EA or SEPA.

We aim to give as much flood information as possible including flood warnings and flood predictions, we have river cams to show flood states of rivers, used in conjunction with weather rain radar to predict if rain will continue and cause possible flooding.

In addition we have rain gauges showing rain fall and likely floods and flooding.

  • Flood warnings are updated by Gov agencys. We endeavour to keep the flood warnings updated but you may need to refresh the page occasionally in case your computer has the flood warnings stored in its cache.
