Snow 18 -23rd Feb 2010

The 18th February has seen snow effect some counties of south wales and south /central England . With the cold continuing through the weekend the risk of snow or sleet showers continues with some accumalations possible.
As we start next week there is a low pressure system moving up from the south which is the classic situation for disruptive snowfall.
This system will meet the cold air and rain will readily turn to snow, The greatest risk will be north devon accross to London and northwards to the north midlands.
At this stage we are unsure of the extent of the upper (850mb) temperatures which some models are showing to be pushed northwards, or the thickness which is also not yet determined. If both are as forecast today there is the likely hood of signifigant snowfall between 8cm - 15 cm +. We will monitor the situation and update as we near the time.
It also looks likely that at the end of next week we will start to see the atlantic weather move back in over the British isles bringing milder and wet weather.
