An area of rainfall will move across Ireland and into Scotland and Northern England overnight, some of which will be persistently heavy over a period of several hours during Friday.

The higher ground Western Scotland and Northwest England in particular could see 40mm or more of rainfall by the end of the day. Lower levels could also see rainfall totals in excess of 25mm in some areas.

The rain band will move away east during the day, clearing many parts by mid-late afternoon, but further heavy showers may develop from the west which may serve to exacerbate any localised flooding and difficult travel conditions.
